Whilst measuring and reducing emissions are vital - Carbon Offsetting is a Proactive Approach to environmental action, reversing the impact of emissions created now.
UN IPCC studies have highlighted the importance of businesses making a difference in the next 5 years before changes to the climate are irreversible, and so by Carbon Offsetting & becoming Carbon Neutral, businesses are doing their part for the planet now - when it is the most important.
Grow Your Brand and Revenue
82% of FTSE 100 companies are committed to reducing their emissions to Zero by 2050, but only 8% are Carbon Neutral.
By becoming a Carbon Neutral Business - you will differentiate yourself in the market as an Industry Leader - proactively reversing your impact on Climate Change now, whilst also reducing your emissions over time.
81% of consumers are more likely to choose and spend more money with environmentally proactive brands, and as a Climate Leader – you will attract, retain and generate more business as an organisation.
Stand out from the noise - don't just create Climate Targets, create Climate Action.
Communicating and Engaging Stakeholders
As a Carbon Neutral Business, you will have a competitive advantage in engaging with, and motivating staff with an issue that matters.
Almost half the UK workforce (42%) now want to work for an organisation that has a positive impact on the world, according to research carried out by consultancy Global Tolerance. The survey of more than 2,000 people found 44% thought meaningful work that helped others was more important than a high salary, and 36% would work harder if their company benefitted society.
Becoming carbon neutral will provide a new opportunity to engage with your customers and community with a positive new directive.
Comprehensive Environmental Policy
Carbon audits completed by Carbon Neutral Britain™ are undertaken via the ISO 14064 and GHG Emissions Protocol Accounting Standards – the two largest and most widely used corporate standards in the world. Only by accurately measuring your footprint – can businesses track and reduce their emissions, as well as offset and achieve Carbon Neutral status.
Carbon Emissions Reporting and policies are increasingly required for businesses in the tender and renewal of contracts, as shown by the 2023 HM Government Policy Procurement Notice - where government suppliers must undertake carbon reporting each year- a requirement mirrored by many other large organisations.
How it Works in 4 steps
Step 1 - Carbon Footprint Calculation
In order to become certified as a Carbon Neutral Business, Carbon Neutral Britain™ are required to calculate your organisations emissions, following the ISO 14064 and GHG Emissions Protocol Accounting Standard - the largest and most widely used corporate standards - used by businesses globally.
In almost all cases, self-assessments or online/software-based calculation tools do not meet the required emission standards, so by completing an audit via the corporate standards, you can ensure all calculations are accurate and verified.
In addition to being a requirement for carbon neutral status, we also find that most customers prefer to use Carbon Neutral Britain™ as a third party to calculate their emissions, to provide assurance to stakeholders that their company’s Carbon Neutral claim is robust and credible.
Step 2 + 3 - Carbon Offsetting + Carbon Neutral Certification
Once your carbon emissions have been calculated, your annual emissions are offset through certified carbon offsetting projects.
Certified to the highest standards, all the carbon offsetting projects that we support are regulated through the Verra - Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Gold Standard - Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER) and the United Nations - Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes. As the three largest, and most regulated carbon offsetting standards used globally by businesses - this ensures the measurements, and tonnes of CO₂e offset are accurate and verified.
Once complete, your organisation will be Certified as Carbon Neutral - a significant point of difference, and a proactive approach to environmental action that you will be able to promote to your stakeholders.
Step 4 - Reduce Future Emissions
Once certification is complete, your businesses will receive a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) - the first step in reducing your future emissions.
With your carbon footprint accurately measured, the report will set emissions reductions targets to achieve net zero emissions, in addition to suggesting ways to reduce your carbon footprint for the future - based on the largest emissions sources.
By accurately measuring, offsetting and committing to annually reduce emissions, your organisation will not only be Carbon Neutral, but in alignment with both Science Based Targets and UK Government Requirements for Carbon Reduction Planning.
By planning for the future - your organisation will balance both short and long term environmental impact.
The UK's Leading Carbon Offsetting Initiative
As the UK's Leading Carbon Offsetting Initiative - businesses can offset via bespoke, renewable, or nature-based projects around the world.
For larger emissions figures, the Carbon Neutral Britain Climate Fund™ portfolio is the most competitive offsetting rate in the UK - at £7.75 per tCO₂e.
100% Verified Carbon Credits and Full Transparency
All carbon offsetting projects supported by Carbon Neutral Britain are verified to the highest standards via the three largest Carbon Certifications in the world - the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER), and the United Nations Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes.
Regulated, verified and third party audited, the international carbon credits that we use are exactly the same credits as those used by multinational organisations, and even countries in their emission reduction schemes around the world - so you can be confident you are supporting vital projects, with accurate emissions reductions.
Separate to this, Carbon Neutral Britain is one of the only organisations in the UK to offer Independent Validation and Assurance of each carbon offsetting project supported, completing due diligence on the audits completed via the applicable corporate standard. Above and beyond the requirements of the United Nations CER, Verra, and Gold Standard Mechanisms - Independent Validation completes 6 additional steps to provide further assurance over the quality of projects utilised by our offsetting:
1 - Enhanced additionality audit of each project supported
2 - Secondary audit based on UNFCCC criteria for project quality
3 - Selective category restriction of projects (no REDD or REDD+)
4 - Satellite, AI and remote sensing review of project outcomes (where applicable)
5 - Durability and permanence project assessment
6 - Continuous project monitoring and review over crediting period
Trust and Transparency is also a core value of our organisation, and as a result all business customers receive Carbon Offsetting Certification for their chosen offsetting. Higher than most charities, we ensure 80% of our subscription budget goes directly towards our tree planting and offsetting projects, 10% to administrative costs, and 10% on fundraising and marketing – helping us grow the number of customers and our impact.
Visual Impact of Projects and Trees Planted
As part of your carbon offsetting impact, we plant trees in sustainable projects around the world - from British woodland management and creation, to tree planting in the Amazon rainforest.
As a client, you will receive detailed information on the projects you are funding, as well as the option for bespoke tree planting.
As an example - planting 240 trees is equal to 1 acre of Amazon reforestation - engaging content which you can promote to your stakeholders.
Recognised Carbon Neutral Certification
Once your business emissions have been offset, your organisation will receive Carbon Neutral Certification, Carbon Offset Certification, Carbon Neutral Business Badge (and licence), and a Media Pack – containing engaging photos, information and content on the exact projects supported via your offsetting, which can be promoted to your stakeholders.
All of our carbon offsetting projects are certified to the highest standards through VCS, VER and CER programmes - to provide complete transparency of the number of Tonnes of CO₂e that have been offset.
A Lasting Impact on Climate Change
Increased Greenhouse Gas (CO₂e) emissions in the atmosphere are the biggest cause of Global Warming on our Planet. By Offsetting your Carbon Footprint your business will have a lasting impact on Climate Change for generations to come.
In addition to protecting the climate, every project also has secondary benefits, supporting local communities in alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals - such as providing safe drinking water, creating local jobs, as well as having a positive impact on wildlife, ecology and biodiversity.

small business subscription
Is your annual business turnover £150,000 or less, and do you have 5 or less staff?
In most cases - for small businesses and sole traders - complete carbon emission audit calculations - in some cases - may cost more than offsetting itself.
Due to this - we have created the UK's only carbon neutral subscription for eligible small businesses, making carbon offsetting obtainable for all.
Thank you for your Environmental Action.
