‘Unavoidable Emissions’ and the Role Carbon Offsets have to play in the Long-Term Future

In recent years, the effects of climate change have become increasingly evident. As a result, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has developed a carbon offsetting and reduction scheme for international aviation (CORSIA) to offset the unavoidable emissions produced by the industry.

While the idea of offsets has been met with some criticism, they play an essential role in the fight against climate change. By investing in projects that reduce greenhouse gases, we can effectively reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere and slow the effects of climate change.

At the same time, it's important to recognize that offsets are not a silver bullet. They cannot replace efforts to reduce emissions at the source, nor should they be used to justify continued emissions. Instead, they should be seen as a critical part of the solution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
