About Us

Carbon Neutral Britain

Carbon Neutral Britain™ is the UK's Leading Carbon Offsetting Initiative – helping British Individuals and Businesses make an impact on Climate Change.

Our Vision is to become a leading Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Britain to tackle the Climate Change Crisis by educating and providing voluntary carbon offsetting to all - from individual subscriptions, charities and organisations - to businesses of all sizes.

Founded in 2020, due to overwhelming support the organisation has rapidly expanded, with our new headquarters based in Central London. So far our projects have already offset over 3 Million Tonnes of CO₂e and planted over 2 Million Trees, helping stop climate change and providing essential forest habitats for endangered wildlife.

Leading Britain's Response to the Climate Crisis

Based in Bank, City of London, our rapidly expanding team are passionate about the climate crisis, and helping Britain make a difference.

Our Mission in 2024 is to become the largest organisation for Voluntary Carbon Offsetting of Individuals and Businesses across the UK.

Why Carbon Offsetting?

Increased Carbon Dioxide (CO₂e) emissions in the atmosphere are the biggest cause of Global Warming on our Planet. By planting trees and funding carbon offsetting projects, we remove and prevent further CO₂e emissions around the globe in the most cost effective and impactful way.

The worst impacts of Climate Change could be irreversible by 2030

On-going studies by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have warned that we only have five years left to prevent catastrophic, irreversible damage to our planet.

Extreme weather with drought, floods, famine, and decreased air quality will have a significant impact on human life for generations to come.

Why Become Carbon Neutral

More than 1 million species are at risk of extinction by Climate Change

Extinction is a natural phenomenon - claiming about five species per year - but scientists estimate dozens of species of plants and animals currently go extinct each day —nearly 1,000 times the natural rate. By 2050, as many as 30 to 50 percent of the total species found on Earth will have disappeared. Species diversity is crucial for ecosystem resilience, and without it, ecological communities will not have the strength to withstand change.

Why Become Carbon Neutral

Government initiatives are not enough

The Governments UK Net Zero Target aims to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. Through Mandatory Offsetting Initiatives, businesses will be required by law to reduce their carbon footprint, and the government will invest in Certified Emission Reductions schemes (the same as those used by Carbon Neutral Britain), to offset any emissions that cannot be removed completely.

Carbon Neutral Britain™ aims to lead the industry in Voluntary Offsetting Initiatives, where individuals and businesses can choose to help tackle climate change – and in doing so you will help reduce climate change further – to help solve what is not just a UK but Global climate crisis. UK Government Initiatives alone will not stop global climate change – you can do your part now before it is too late.

Why Become Carbon Neutral

Reducing emissions are not enough

Individuals can make a difference with small changes - such as using renewable energy, changing what we eat, looking at waste and consumption, and changing how and when we travel. However, we cannot stop our carbon footprint completely, and in many cases, large purchases such as electric cars and solar devices are not affordable for everyone.

For businesses also - reducing emissions takes time, and even the most proactive businesses aiming for Zero Emissions by 2030-40, will still be damaging the planet for the next 10-20 years.

By Carbon Offsetting - businesses and individuals can make a difference to climate change now - in an affordable and manageable way.

Educating Britain on Environmental Impact

We believe Carbon Offsetting is the answer to the climate crisis - as the cheapest and most effective way to make a difference - fast.

Through our projects and offsetting initiatives, our aim is to inspire and educate Britain to make a difference.

Why Carbon Neutral Britain™?

Carbon Neutral Britain™ was set up to allow all of Britain – not just businesses, to make an impact on climate change through carbon offsetting.  Due to the complexity of regulations and offsetting initiatives, carbon offsetting has traditionally been focussed on businesses, and individuals often have struggled to find affordable and regulated ways to buy carbon offsetting credits – measured in Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CO₂e).

Our core values lie in our Mission Statement, which outlines we will provide the:

Best Value per Tonne of CO₂e to our customers

Biggest Impact on projects in Britain and around the world

Most Transparency on where our money is spent

Upmost Quality and Assurance on the methods and credits we use

Best Value

As a large organisation buying credits in volume across different carbon markets around the world, we are able to purchase credits at a much lower rate than the average consumer – which allows us to charge such a low monthly cost to our customers. Focussing on projects in Britain, but also internationally allow us to get the best value as the costs of projects vary depending on the location, and offset type (tree planting, wind, solar etc).

The carbon offset ‘vintage’ is also a big factor to our successful impact. In some cases offsetting projects run for several years, with not all of their credits being bought each year – allowing small quantities of cheaper credits to be found and purchased.

Biggest Impact

Each month we purchase carbon credits based on the number of Tonnes of CO₂e purchased from our individual and business customers – and as well as providing the best value, we select our carbon offsetting projects based on their direct and indirect impact around the world. In addition to ensuring the projects are either VCS, VER or CER certified, we looked to fund projects in the developing world that help provide education, employment, clean water, energy and a positive impact on the local wildlife and ecology.

We believe planting trees are one of the most sustainable ways to offset carbon - as forest projects absorb CO₂, refract the earths heat as well as having a positive impact on wildlife, ecology and biodiversity. As a result, we ensure a minimum of 20 trees per customer are planted each month for our subscribers.

At Carbon Neutral Britain™ – despite the significantly higher cost - we pledge to spend up to 10% of our subscription budget on carbon offsetting or sustainable tree planting projects in Britain, for Britain. With woodland creation projects in Scotland and England, we ensure that our impact is felt at home as well as abroad.

Most Transparency

In the UK – the average charity spends 75% of their budget on programmes, and 25% on all other costs. As leaders in Climate Action we have taken one step further.

80% of our subscription budget goes directly towards our tree planting and offsetting projects, and the remaining 10% goes to administrative costs, and 10% on fundraising and marketing – helping us grow the number of customers and our impact.

Trust and Transparency is a core value of our organisation, and as a result customers receive detailed information on the exact projects funded throughout their subscription, to see where their money is being spent, and the impact that is being made.

Upmost Quality

All of our carbon offsetting projects are certified to the highest standards through the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER) and Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes.

As the three largest, and most regulated offsetting standards in the world - this ensures all of the money spent goes directly to the offsetting initiatives supported. This also ensures the measurements, and tonnes of CO₂e are accurate, and verified. We strongly recommend avoiding any offsetting projects that do not follow these standards.

To qualify for these standards, all projects go through a rigorous and public registration and issuance process, third party audit and are overseen by the CDM Executive Board (appointed by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), ratified by the Kyoto Protocol. Regulated and verified, the international carbon credits that we use are the exact same credits as those used by multinational organisations, and even countries in their emission reduction schemes.

For our business customers, we ensure that our methods to quantify, monitor, report and verify greenhouse gas emissions within organisations is accurate and correct following the ISO (International Organisation for Standardization) 14064-1 and GHG Protocol Emissions Standards following the principles of relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency and accuracy.

In addition, all projects supported are Independently Validated, completing due diligence on the audits completed via the applicable corporate standard. Above and beyond the requirements of the United Nations CER, Verra, and Gold Standard Mechanisms, Independent Validation completes 6 additional steps:

1 - Enhanced additionality audit of each project supported
2 - Secondary audit based on UNFCCC criteria for project quality
3 - Selective category restriction of projects (no REDD or REDD+)
4 - Satellite, AI and remote sensing review of project outcomes (where applicable)
5 - Durability and permanence project assessment
6 - Continuous project monitoring and review over crediting period

By providing Best Value, Biggest Impact, Most Transparency, and Upmost Quality, Carbon Neutral Britain continue to be Industry Leaders within the UK environmental sector.

Through United Nations Certified Emission Reduction Schemes, we are proud to be supporters of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
